THE NEW COMMUNITY HOUSE

The New Community House—the building in which our congregation lives—was built in 1926 on the corner of W. Bryn Mawr Ave. and N. Kenmore Ave. It was built in the French Romanesque Style, featuring Bedford Indiana limestone.

The building has been the longtime home of institutions like City Lit Theatre, Chicago Nepali Friendship Society, Northside Action for Justice, Humanity Relief, Grace Baptist Church, and several independent arts collectives.

At several times in our history, our tenants have included small schools and child social service providers like Head Start.

We welcome inquiries for tenancy.

Long-term rental spaces

There are various spaces throughout the building that are available to lease—for long-term tenancy or for a single special event.

For more information about those spaces and leasing options, please contact us.

Public transportation

The New Community House is accessible via Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) trains and buses. The Red Line ‘L’ Station at Bryn Mawr services our location. Walk two blocks east on W. Bryn Mawr Ave. to reach the building.

Bus route No. 147 and No. 151 service N. Sheridan Rd. Get off at W. Bryn Mawr Ave. and walk one block west to reach the building.

Parking

Street parking is available along W. Bryn Mawr Ave., N. Kenmore Ave., N. Winthrop Ave., and N. Broadway. Please look at all signs regarding parking restrictions. Payment boxes for certain streets are clearly visible with green and white signage.

Special event spaces

Edgewater Presbyterian Church is open to a variety of people and groups using our space, especially for non-profits and community groups.

The City of Chicago and 48th Ward aldermanic office have used our spaces, including our sanctuary, for town hall and community meetings. We do not host campaign events due to our non-profit status.

All events must be booked with the building manager at least one week in advance.

Unique rooms

We have a convertible sanctuary with seating that can be reconfigured. We have a cafeteria-style hall with working kitchen, natural gas stove and oven. We have a third-floor gymnasium with basketball court and bleachers.

Usage fees

We will add a modest security and housekeeping fee, as appropriate, depending on the nature of your special event. We may request that you provide extra security for larger events.

Event parking

Parking for larger events can be rented from St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 5649 N. Sheridan Rd. Please call them at (773) 334-4515 for more information.
