A hymn for those without mothers on Mother’s Day

Though I have missed a mother’s voice,
Or arms that held me near,
God placed around me other loves
To draw my spirit near.
A teacher’s word, a neighbor’s smile,
A hand to help me stand—
In every gentle guiding soul
There moved a mother’s hand.
The meal left warm upon my plate,
The coat when days were cold,
The stories shared at eventide—
Such love, both brave and bold.
Though womb I never rested in
Nor lullaby was mine,
Still I was rocked by mercy’s tide,
And wrapped in care divine.
So let me now give thanks and sing
For love in many forms—
For those who shaped my heart with grace
Through life’s uncertain storms.
