Prayer for those anxious about losing Medicaid coverage

Lord,

We come to you today thinking about our neighbors here in Edgewater, across Chicago, throughout the nation, who are scared about losing their Medicare coverage. So many people in our community are worried about what will happen to their healthcare.

You know the fears in our hearts, Lord. The seniors on our block who wonder if they’ll still be able to get their medicine. The families caring for aging parents who don’t know how they’ll pay for doctor visits. The people we see at the Jewel or Mariano’s and on the CTA trains and buses who are quietly worrying about their health coverage.

We know you see every person who is afraid right now. You care about the woman at the Bryn Mawr Cares or other senior center, the man at the Walgreens or CVS pharmacy, and all our neighbors who depend on Medicare to stay healthy.

Help us remember that you are always with us, even when we’re scared. Your love doesn’t change, even when everything else feels uncertain.

Please give wisdom to the people making decisions about healthcare. Help them remember that real people in real neighborhoods like ours will be affected by what they decide. Show them how to care for those who need help the most.

For everyone in Edgewater, in Chicago, in all places who is worried, please give them peace. Help them know they’re not alone. Show our church how we can help our neighbors through this hard time.

Even when we don’t understand what’s happening, help us trust that you are still in control. You are our hope when everything else feels shaky.

We pray this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
