As followers of Jesus Christ and members of Edgewater Presbyterian Church, we unequivocally condemn all forms of political violence, including assassinations and assassination attempts. These acts are not only tragic—they are morally repugnant and stand in direct opposition to the values of peace, justice, and human dignity that our faith compels us to uphold.
We mourn the devastating loss of Minnesota Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband. Our hearts are broken for their family, their community, and the people they faithfully served. We also hold close in prayer Rep. John Hoffman and his wife, and we pray for their protection, their healing, and for peace to prevail over fear.
Political violence has never been on the right side of history. It poisons our democracy, erodes the fabric of our civil society, and betrays the call to love our neighbors—even when we disagree. As Christians, we are called not to destroy, but to build. Not to silence, but to listen. Not to hate, but to love.
We urge our leaders, our communities, and all people of goodwill to reject the rhetoric and ideologies that fuel such violence—and to recommit ourselves to a nation where justice, dialogue, and compassion are the way forward.
