Welcome.
We are one of the oldest congregations on the North Side of Chicago. Located in the lakefront Bryn Mawr Historic District, we have served the residents of Edgewater, Andersonville, Uptown, and Rogers Park for over 129 years.

One Presbyterian’s view of the Shroud of Turin
Despite our history of iconoclasm, the value of something like the Shroud isn't necessarily about whether it is real in a laboratory sense.
Zwingli and the sausages—Presbyterian roots
It turns out that sometimes the best way to stand up for the Gospel is to sit down for a meal.
Technically, there is no required ‘Order of Worship’ in the Presbyterian tradition
If the Session wanted, worship on Sundays could be an hour of total silence like Quakers, or an hour of just a sermon and nothing else. A king of England was beheaded partly for trying to force a common order of worship on Presbyterians.
Huldrych Zwingli: The guy who laid the foundations for Reformed Christianity
The Rev. Fr. Huldrych Zwingli, a Catholic priest in Zurich during the early 1500s, was the true spark of the Reformed tradition. While he is often overshadowed by his contemporaries, his bold vision for what a faith community could be continues to shape how we experience God today.
Theology 101: Our Presbyterian relationship with the ‘Mother of God’
When visitors enter the Sanctuary at Edgewater Presbyterian Church, their eyes are often drawn to a striking centerpiece. It’s a massive, heavy icon of the Theotokos. This sacred image was written by the Rev. Nanette Sawyer.
Incense seems to be returning to Reformed churches after centuries of absence
I was met with a scent that felt unexpected in a Reformed space. Tucked away on a side table near the baptismal font was a simple ceramic bowl filled with sand, holding a few smoldering incense sticks.
Explaining why the Church of Scotland is issuing its first Book of Confessions
This decision marks a significant shift away from the Westminster Confession of Faith being the sole, foundational expression of its beliefs.
Theology 101: What is Purgatory and how did it spark the Protestant Reformation?
The Catholic Church teaches that Purgatory is a temporary place or state where people go to after they die. It’s for people who love God and are saved, but still have small sins or faults when they pass away.

Northside Friends Meeting
Northside Friends Meeting is a congregation of the Religious Society of Friends, popularly known as the Quakers. An historically progressive group of denominations in Christianity, it has long been pacifist, advocated for the abolition of slavery in Great Britain and the United States. They are known to be intensely social justice-oriented.
Friends have two types of meetings: programmed worship and waiting worship. Their worship space is called a meeting house. The New Community House is this congregation’s meeting house.
Grace Baptist Church
A longtime space-sharer in The New Community House is a congregation of the American Baptist Churches USA—historically known as the Northern Baptist Convention (1907-1950) and Triennial Convention (1814-1907). This particular congregation is fully affirming of LGBTQ persons in the life of the Church.
Many of the Founding Fathers and Mothers of the United States were members of the original colonial Baptist churches in New England.
